Kyanite is a type of Aluminum Silicate and is rich in iron. If hung by a hair, Kyanite will follow the Earth's magnetic filed. It gets it's name from the Greek work kyanos which means blue. It is believed that the odd absence of Kyanite from older history books is due to the fact that people used to mistake it for Sapphires!
